We Can't Turn Back Now - Can we?

There's been a heck of a lot of hype about Apple's release of Final Cut Pro X. More than a few cups of Haterade have been dumped on the preliminary release, and there is no shortage of voices from the professional editing community claiming that the release of FCPX is the begining of the end for Apple's Pro Apps. I haven't purchased / played with FCPX yet, but what I've heard hasn't been nice. If the reviews on Apple's Mac App Store can be considered a reliable source of customer feedback, FCPX may just be Apple's Windows Me. Remember Windows Me? Exactly. Collossal fail. But, hey, Apple was due for one.

On a break during his Final Cut Pro class, Bryan Gildner from Indigo Films chatted with us about the new TV show he's 2nd AD on, I Faked My Own Death (airing in September on the Discovery Channel)--not to be confused with the other 2 shows he works on, I (Almost) Got Away With It and Cuff Me If You Can

Just when you thought it was safe to edit, to be a professional, to create a reel, to freakin' express yourself and still earn a dollar, Apple goes and changes Final Cut Pro. Now, I'm not an editor but some of my best friends are and this is what they're saying. The new FCP X kinda stops the train. Adobe and Avid must be waking up, poking each other, dusting off the features and saying "let's GO, maaaaan!"

Flash ain't dead, humans. Didn't you watch our live webcast of One Size Doesn't Fit All: The Straight Scoop on HTML5 and Flash? No? You didn't? No worries. Here's the edited version with experts Sarah Soward, Gabriel Dunne and Morgan Nixon breaking it all down for all y'all.

After all the hype flying around in the latter half of 2010 we figured we needed to convene the community and have some real talk about HTML 5 and Flash. We wanted to know the answers to the following questions:

*What are the major new features being incorporated in HTML5?
*Which of those features are seasoned web developers most excited about and why?
*Is the full adoption of HTML 5 really going to kill Flash?

My Adventures at Dreamforce

In the past few years I have come to fully embrace my inner nerd and, as such, I am completely fascinated by the way people and organizations are using data to “do more with less” in the wake of the Great Recession. When it comes to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, though, it might be said that people are learning to do more with what they already have. It’s about finding the value - in terms of automating processes and eliminating redundant efforts - in the tiny bits of data that are already there but haven’t yet been arranged in a way where they form a clear picture.
